Finding your new home

Finding a good, affordable room is a challenge in the Netherlands, and also in Zwolle. Windesheim cooperates with national housing agency Stichting Studentenhuisvesting (SSH) and for most students there is housing available. But not for all, so please check the details below for your specific situation. In case you have to find your own housing, we reccommend to look from April onwards if you want to have a room in September.

Good to know: in the Netherlands, students usually live in student houses across the city. You may have to share the shower, toilet, kitchen and living room with other students. Pets are usually not allowed.

    • I'm an exchange student

SSH offers furnished student rooms for exchange students in Zwolle.

      • If you’re joining us in February, our International Office will send you a registration link by the beginning of December.
      • If you’re starting in September, expect the link by the beginning of July.
      How to book a room

Once you’ve been officially accepted into an exchange programme, your housing registration will be approved, allowing you to book a room. A detailed step-by-step guide is available on the SSH's website.

Important: Registering does not guarantee a room. There are only a limited number of spots available.

      Finding your own accommodation

If you can’t secure a room through SSH or prefer private housing, Windesheim recommends checking the websites listed below. Start your search early, as finding a room can be challenging if you wait too long!

If you have any questions, you can contact the International Office. Check out their contact details and opening hours for assistance.

    • I'm going to study International Business

If you're planning to study International Business, you'll need to arrange your own accommodation. The good news? Over the past three years, all international students have found housing!

For first-year students, shared rooms at Talentenplein (provided by SSH) have been available, and we expect the same for September 2026. You’ll share a furnished room with another student for approximately €515 per month per person and you have to pay 4 months rent before your study starts. Students who apply for this programme will receive further details about the application process, likely in May.

      Start your search early!

SSH rooms can fill up quickly, so we strongly recommend starting your search in April. If you'd prefer a private room, check out the additional housing options listed below.

If you haven’t secured a place before arrival, you might consider staying in a hostel or B&B while searching for a long-term option in Zwolle.

    • I'm going to study Global Project and Change Management

As a first-year student from abroad, you’re guaranteed a shared room! All international students live at Talentenplein, the Windesheim Honours College residence in the heart of Zwolle. This brings you a close-knit community with your fellow students. Are you from the Netherlands? Then accommodation is not guaranteed. We reccommend to start your search for a room early.

International students will stay at Talentenplein. You’ll share a studio with one other student, making it easy to connect and settle in. Since everyone comes from different countries, you’ll explore Zwolle together and quickly feel at home. With a 40-hour study load per week, living with classmates also makes group work and homework support more convenient!

Student stories

International students living at Talentenplein

What's it like to live at the Talentenplein student accommodation in Zwolle? Pleun and Julia share their experience:

“Our room was one of the coziest. We used our closets to divide the space, creating our own little areas. A few months in, I bought a beautiful carpet - our pride and joy - that made it feel even homier. With plants, fairy lights, and occasional kitchen redecorations, we created a space that felt like home.”
